Salon de Lilou

January 27, 2016

Get ready to be transported to a different era with Cafe Lilou’s newest branch, opening up across from Riffa Views in the RUW corner. The inspiration for the decor of the cafe is the Parisian Salon, where intellectuals and artists gathered to discuss philosophy art and all aspects of french culture.

I have to say I was very impressed with the theme. The main dining room’s  decor stays very true to Cafe Lilou’s traditional colors and decor  and the centerpiece of the room is a magnificent chandelier designed with the familiar gold fringe and red shades but on a much grander scale. However my favorite room was the library.

This room is designed as an atrium with two floors of lit up bookshelves shining under the stunning crystal chandeliers hung in the center of the room. This is by far the most enchanting dining space on the Island and I can’t wait to see this beautiful room in the day time as I’m sure that it will look just as magical in the sunshine as it does under the glittering chandeliers.

The food we sampled was a mix of  the familiar and new,  we started off with a mix of appetizers that included the Hummus Rose, beetroot hummus has become one of my favorite dishes and so I was very happy to see this on the cafe menu.

The Kibbeh stuffed with hummus and baba ghanouj was phenomenal I especially like the latter stuffing but they were both fantastic.

The Burrata with raspberry sauce was a beauty to behold, but for me the taste fell a bit short of the presentation as I much prefer my burrata with tomatoes and balsamic vinegar.

Lastly we had the Wagyu burgers which  were very good but the potato chips were actually some of the best I’ve ever had at the cafe and i can safely say they are way better than the curly fries usually served at the cafe.

We ended the night with the decedent chocolate ball that once covered in chocolate sauce melts into the most sumptuous gooey chocolate concotion I have ever tasted.

A final edition to the Cafe is the private room upstairs. I was told that the room can accommodate up to 15 guests for a private function but we were not able to take a look inside as it was not quite ready.

Lilou’s entrance into Riffa will be spectacular and may just put the RUW corner on the map.  This polished upscale location is a must visit when it opens.
