The Orangery by Chef Susy Massetti of Masso restaurant is Bahrain’s newest tea lounge and patisserie.
The restaurant is open from 9am to 8pm daily with the breakfast menu offered from 9am to 12 noon on weekdays , and 9am to 1pm on weekends. Lunch is served from noon to 4pm daily and consists of a salad and sandwich menu with many tantalizing options.
In addition to breakfast and lunch the orangery servers afternoon tea daily from 3pm-6pm. It was a friend’s birthday so we decided to celebrate with a sophisticated afternoon tea.
I called up The Orangery and the staff were very helpful and said they would prepare a table for us and decorate the table and our cake selection. I was even advised to bring a few flowers which they would happily arrange for us.
I arrived to find the table already decorated with rose petals and ribbons on the napkins and they proceeded to arrange the roses I brought into teapots and place them around the table. The results were quite impressive and it really goes to show you that the service at the orangery is top notch.
I ordered two cakes one was their famous Russian honey cake (Medovik) which turned out to be amazing, and the other was a strawberry gateau which was very sweet and creamy. The cakes on offer were very different from the ones you find at Lilou and Le Chocolat so we are very lucky to have such variety in Bahrain.
We also ordered the afternoon tea with two teapots , as well as some macaroons and mini pastries. The scones were the best we have had in Bahrain and the sandwiches were good but you should definitely go for two orders if you are 3 people.
Finally we wanted to try something off the lunch menu so we settled with the vegetable goat cheese and beetroot sandwich and it was fantastic and the fries and mini pickles were a great touch.
The Orangery has definitely raised the bar for other bakeries and restaurants on the island with its phenomenal service, great savory menu and amazing selection of sweets to indulge in, all set in an upscale luxury tea room with a great outdoor garden terrace. We cannot wait to go back to try the breakfast and if you haven’t already checked out The Orangery all we can say is what are you waiting for?
